Transylvania

It was another long overnight train journey to Bucharest in Romania on which we were woken up twice to show our passports, but there was no surprise there after our recent experience on the trains. We arrived in Bucharest at about 7am and decided to check the place out before we decided whether we would stop or not so we dropped our bags off at the luggage area in the station and went for a wander.

There was no information desk of maps of any kind so we ended up just choosing a direction and walking until we stumbled upon something of interest but that didn't really happen. Instead we passed loads of run down building that looked unoccupiable (i think i just made that word up) and to be honest a right state! To be honest although we had no idea where we were going we just didn't seem to get a good vibe from the place and decided we would be better off going up to a town called Brasov in Transylvania, which was another 3 hour train journey but I'm really glad we did.

Brasov is amazing!!!! It's situated in between some mountains and the scenic views are unbelievable! The town and it's surroundings are really nice -- it has so many old buildings, churches and stuff it's really cool. Since we got here we just went for a wander and took the chair life up to the top of the mountain where you can see across the entire town and mountains which is amazing. After having the obligatory beer at the top we went back down to search for food as we hadn't had a proper meal all day because of all the travelling.

We got a map from the hostel and had been given directions to a traditional Romanian/Transylvanian restaurant so we went there as I wanted to try the local cuisine!! I started off with a Transylvanian sour soup which was really good and then had what a think was pork liver with vegetables and was stuffed by the end along with my beer and half of Matt's -- he drinks too slowly!

Anyway we're going to try and sort out how to get to Bran tomorrow to visit Dracula's castle and a few other places while we're here so really looking forward to that! We're going to be getting the train tomorrow evening to Budapest and have sorted a sleeping cabin for that also so hopefully will be able to get a bit of shut eye.

I will stick up some photos tomorrow after we have been to the castle and stuff!
