Melbourne to Carins - Day 4 Sydney

Our first stop of the day was Canberra Australia's capital city. Canberra was apparently created as there was a lot of conflict between Sydney and Melbourne as to which city would be the capital. So they decided they would create a city called Canberra (Aboriginal for Meeting Place) inbetween the two. Basically all thats in this city is the Government Buildings and the War Memorial. We stopped off at the War memorial and took a few photos, we only had an hour go got somehting to eat and had a look around the war memorial museum which was pretty kool. I could have spent ages there but there wasn't much time so had a quick browse but it was quite interesting. I also managed to find a Gregson on the soldiers list in the memorial section, it took me quite a while as there were thousands of names but I found one!

We then all jumped back in the bus to head for the Big Smoke Sydney. We stopped about half way so some people could get off for a cigarette and for some reason someone opened the trailor where all our bags were held. No-one noticed it hadnt been shut until there were cars beeping at us and making hand signals, we then realised the trailor was open but luckily we hadnt gone that far since out stop. Only one bag had fallen off which we had to go back and get but luckily it wasnt mine.

There was a bit of traffic on the roads nearing Sydney so we didnt actually arrive until around 6. Checked into Base Backpackers where we were dropped off, 6 of us from the bus decided we may as well share a dorm and we got it for a cheaper price too which was a bonus. I needed to do some laundry so shoved that in the machine and then went to get something to eat. Me phil and dave ended up at the YHA restaurant and got a spag bol which was pretty good. As it was pretty late we decided to take a stroll down to the harbour front to check out the bridge and the opera house. It was a bit surreal seeing the Opera house in all its glory but it looked amazing at night, unfortunately I had keft my camera back at the hostel so couldnt take any photos damn it! The bridge looked really nice at night all lit up too. We then went back to the hostel and called it an early night as we were all pretty tired from our 7am wake up calls for the past few days.
